Follow the rest of the steps to install the printer, and the installation process will complete successfully giving you a fully functional printer. Manually browse to the directory I previously mentioned. After it fails, go into your device manager and update the driver from there. It will then attempt to install the printer, but fail.

The installer will place the driver in your C:\Program Files(x86)\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet P1000_P1500 Drivers folder along with some other files. It will have you unzip the files to a temp location and run the installer.

I downloaded the vista 圆4 driver, the basic one, not with the extra software junk. I have the same printer, and had a problem getting it to work at first as well even though it worked great on vista64. I see this response may be somewhat outdated, but for anyone else working to install this printer, this may be handy.
